ISTA LAUNCHES NEW GLOBAL DIVISION E:SO, AIMING TO FILL ENERGY MARKET’S UNMET NEED FOR SUPERIOR ENERGY COST MANAGEMENT

E:SOSM combines strengths of four technology leaders to deliver the most advanced & innovative billing, CIS, metering & transaction management solutions to energy-conscious organizations

Atlanta, Georgia, USA (January 12, 2009) – ista International GmbH, the world leader in consumption-based energy billing and cost management, has launched a new independent global division named E:SOSM (http://www.eso-global.com). The pioneering new division will focus on empowering major players in the energy supply chain – retailers, wholesalers, utilities, clean-energy providers, and multi-site commercial, industrial and residential consumers – with superior energy cost management capabilities via the industry’s most advanced billing, Customer Information Systems (CIS), metering and data transaction management systems.

“We created E:SO to bring together four of ista’s greatest global strengths into one international name, with one simple goal in mind. That goal is to give energy businesses and energy-reliant organizations the ability to differentiate themselves by offering their customers superior energy cost management opportunities,” said Walter Schmidt, CEO of ista International. “The market is hungry for an agile, innovative company that can help businesses make the most intelligent, cost-effective decisions about energy. E:SO is primed and ready to rapidly deploy the systems these companies are looking for, backed by our established industry experts using the most proven technologies available.”

E:SO officially was launched on January 1, 2009 through the alignment of four distinct, complementary service and technology leaders from ista’s global portfolio. These include three business units from ista North America. ista North America’s Utility Solutions Group (USG) contributes to E:SO its retail market expertise in front-to-back office billing, CIS and energy cost management for deregulated energy retailers and regulated utilities. Houston-based EC Power International, Inc., acquired by ista in November 2008, contributes its real-time electronic transaction management/electronic data interchange (EDI) systems and regulatory expertise for clients including power and natural gas retailers and wholesalers. ista’s Privatized Housing Group contributes an established US-wide technical field organization known for its unsurpassed metering, submetering and meter technology expertise for multi-unit housing clients including the US Department of Defense (DoD).

The final core component of E:SO is ista International’s UK-based Utility Energy Solutions Limited (UESL), which specializes in multi-site commercial and industrial customers. Between these four contributing members, E:SO at its inception is servicing more than three million meter points worldwide. “Each of E:SO’s core building blocks has been doing a phenomenal job in their respective markets and geographies,” added Schmidt. “Now, through E:SO, we’re combining and leveraging their regional strengths to deliver even greater value and services to our current and prospective clients anywhere they do business worldwide.”

Schmidt also announced the company has appointed longtime ista executive Ruediger Neubauer as CEO of E:SO. “E:SO is committed to helping forward-thinking organizations address the challenges of rapidly fluctuating energy costs and ever-changing regulations – all while providing them with an unprecedented array of energy cost management controls and incentives,” said Neubauer. “For example, our multi-site DoD base housing program precisely measures energy consumption and actually delivers rebates to those homeland security personnel who reduce consumption and help conserve energy. It’s these kinds of innovations that quickly will be seen as the hallmark of E:SO.”

E:SO will enable companies to increase revenues and control expenses by leveraging their existing technology investments and processes and by integrating energy consumption data with locally installed “smart” devices in homes and businesses. This is in large part due to E:SO’s core technology platform called E:SO|Net, an extensible service-oriented architecture (SOA) that enables the development of configurable and easy-to-integrate billing, customer, metering and data transaction management processes and solutions.
