Anyone familiar with the servicing the cosmetics department at major retailers is familiar with returns and the dollars deducted by in-store clerks initiating those returns. Jean-Phillipe, representing some of the largest manufacturers of fashion and basic stock cosmetic manufacturers in the world knew this process all to well.
Each day, ragged cartons, filled to the brim with Nail Polish, Makeup, Sundries, and accessories, filled his perpetually cluttered returns area with stack after stack of store returns. Sometimes the cartons contained short descriptions of what was contained therein, but most of the time Jean-Philippe was charged back at based on the estimation of the store manager.
Paramount Workflow Suite provided one receiving station, outfitted with two grocery-type flat bed scanners. Every carton was cracked open and each and every item was scanned and verified against the customer buy sheet.
At the Item Scan Event
If product was VALID then item was scanned into one of three “disposition” containers.
A.) Return to Open Stock
B.) Second Quality
C.) NON-Saleable
If product scanned was INVALID then item was scanned into “disposition” container.
A.) Not Our Product (NOP)
At the End Carton Event
A.) Carton Sealed
B.) Disposition Label Printed
C.) Begin [New] Carton Event Initiated
At End Receipt Event
A.) Valid Returns calculated
B.) Verified receipts returned to host system in ASCII format.
C.) Receiving Report Emailed to business partners.
The Not Our Product disposition was the majority of INVALID receipts at Jean-Philippe. However the sheer amount of volume and inaccuracy provided a happy ROI on the Paramount Workflow Suite.
